We created an interactive music video for American singer / songwriter Lissie which is controlled by live weather data. It uses the Google Maps API, a live weather feed and (optional) HTML 5 location sharing. Users can choose any location in the world and see Lissie and her band perform in the weather conditions being experienced there right now.

We shot 5 different types of weather in camera, with live weather effects and no post production.

We had a pair of young creatives called Luke and Wilf who worked on the project whilst interning with us for 8 weeks. Steve and I directed it and the development was done by Half Cyborg.

Football Hero is an experiment to create a Guitar Hero or Rock Band type game played by footballs. We constructed the game in a warehouse in West London, and drafted in a talented young team of freestyle footballers to play. The project was created to promote the Kasabian single Underdog, and was carried out in collaboration with UK sports brand Umbro.

The game was powered by the open source Guitar Hero clone Frets On Fire, and we used two enormous projectors to create a three story high image on the side of the warehouse wall. The coloured buttons on the typical guitar controller were replaced by five huge pressure sensitive pads which were carefully positioned on the wall in order to line up with the game's descending notes.

Each of the game's pads contained a piezoelectric vibration sensor, and these were wired back to an Arduino, which in turn was connected to the MacBook Pro we used to run the software. The footballers had to try to hit the pads in time with the music in order to play the Kasabian track Underdog.

The players found the game pretty tough at first, but they gradually got into the rhythm of things, and by the end of the day were racking up some respectable scores. The game itself proved to be really addictive, and in between practice sessions and takes the entire crew was playing.

Kasabian are synonymous with football in the UK, and Underdog has also been used on the Sony Bravia ad featuring Brazil and AC Milan superstar Kaka.

Watch the behind the scenes video below to find out some more in depth technical info on how we built the game.

We created a hacked version of Google Street View which allows users to listen to the new Editors album 'In This Light And On This Evening' in the areas of London which inspired it.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/4233/112611/editors-streetview-fleetroad-tom.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="392" width_o="1024" height_o="600" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/4233/112611/editors-streetview-fleetroad-tom_o.jpg" align="left" />

Users can travel to areas of the city where we've hacked in our own custom locations. The new additions consist of our own custom panoramic images, shot at night by photographer James Royall. Within each location the user will hear music from the album, which was inspired by the mood and magic of London at night. Each of the nine tracks on the album has its own location.

We collaborated with the inventors of Bare Conductive – a new kind of electricity-conducting body ink, and UK electronic musician and producer Calvin Harris, to create the Humanthesizer, a giant human synthesizer. The new ink, when painted on the skin, allows a current to be passed through the body without causing an electric shock.

The instrument consists of 34 pads on the floor which have been painted with the conductive ink and connected to a computer via some clever custom electronics. The performers stand on the pads, and touch each other on the hands or body to complete a circuit and trigger a sound. Calvin played the main keyboard line and effects by interacting with a row of eight models. The rhythmic portions of the track were played by seven dancers performing a carefully choreographed routine.

Bare Conductive was developed as part of a project by RCA Industrial Design and Engineering masters students Bibi Nelson, Becky Pilditch, Isabel Lizardi and Matt Johnson. The custom electronics and software for the project were created by Matt Johnson, employing an Arduino Mega and the graphical audio programming tool Max/MSP. The performers, floor pads, Arduinos and Max/MSP combine to create a giant MIDI controller, used to sequence and quantize music with Ableton Live.

Watch the making of below to see how we did it.

Menzies Distribution are a UK firm who make sure all the country's newspapers and magazines arrive in the shops in time for opening every morning. They call this process The Nightly Miracle. The company wanted a screen saver. We came up with the idea of casting the company's warehouse staff as superheroes with capes and clipboards, and created an animation showing the nightly miracle in progress.

I created the concept, characters and initial illustrations, before handing over to Emma Webb for additional character design and animation. The piece now plays as a screensaver on all the company's computers.

Ski Republic have revolutionised the ski hire business with their high quality, low cost approach. The company's brand was created by agency Dave who are part of Engine. I carried out this project while working at Altogether, a full service digital agency which is part of the same group.

We worked closely with Dave and Ski Republic to translate the brand online, creating a ski hire application which is at the very core of the client's business. We streamlined the hire process to make it as quick and simple as possible, and we delivered a great looking site into the bargain.

Iconic British hair styling brand Brylcreem rebranded around the concept of "effortlessness". I concepted and art directed the brands official website, translating the new brand values into an entertaining and informative user experience. The website is almost entirely drawn by hand, with all the backgrounds, headings and illustrations created on paper and scanned in to the computer. The hairstyling products are treated in a refreshingly funny way, with ridiculous claims made for each product which are conveniently retracted by means of an asterisk and footnote. Each product has a corresponding illustration, animation or interactive toy based on the copy. This led to some wonderful moments like giraffes eating houseplants and porcupines in people's pockets.

The site also features the innovative "styling filter" - an interactive tool which recommends products based on a number of parameters such as hair length (short to long) and desired look (neat to messy), and a hand drawn game of pong.

This official site for indie rockers Red Light Company was built on the Expression Engine platform which offers great community features right out of the box. We extended the functionality of the platform further, allowing users to declare their gig attendance and built in Google Maps showing the location of each venue. The site's design concept revolved around an interactive 3D zoetrope containing atmospheric loops of film. The zoetrope's images were rendered in anaglyphic 3D, so users who had a pair of red and blue glasses handy could view the zoetrope in an extra dimansion. Red Light Company are no longer signed to Columbia but we'll be making an archive version of the site available shortly.

Official site for new RCA signing Will and the People. Community building is extremely important to new artists. WATP's hardcore fans had started to call themselves "Will's Soldiers". We embraced this idea and gave them the tools they need they to build an army. Each site member creates a soldier character when signing up. New members start off as cadets and can gain promotion by contributing to the site. The soldiers also become part of the sites graphics, cheekily popping in and out of the scenery in the headers. Sadly the band and label parted company a few months after the site's completion and as a result the live site is no longer available to view.
